Quick answer
Indians from Kerala need a visa to visit Singapore. You apply online through an authorised visa agent appointed by Singapore's missions in India, not at an embassy counter. The official processing fee is S$30, ICA aims to decide most applications in about 3 working days, and the visa is issued as an e-Visa. You need a passport valid for at least 6 months, a signed Form 14A, a recent photo, and proof that you can pay for your trip. You do not need to travel to Chennai or Delhi.
Singapore is one of the most popular short holidays from Kochi, with direct flights and a visa that is usually quick to get. But many families from Kerala still lose time because of a wrong photo, an unsigned form or a weak bank statement. This guide explains the full process from Kerala, step by step, using information from Singapore's Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) and the Singapore Consulate-General in Chennai.
Do Indians need a visa for Singapore?
Yes. Indian passport holders with ordinary passports need a visa to enter Singapore as a tourist or business visitor. Holders of diplomatic, official and service passports are exempt. The only common exception for tourists is the 96-hour Visa Free Transit Facility, which applies if you hold a valid visa for countries such as the US, UK, Canada or Australia and are passing through Singapore. We explain it in a separate guide.
How do people in Kerala apply for a Singapore visa?
Since 2009, the Singapore Consulate-General in Chennai does not accept walk-in visa applications. Applications are submitted electronically through authorised visa agents appointed by Singapore's missions, or by a local contact in Singapore who applies for you online. The approved visa is an e-Visa that you print and carry.
For someone in Kochi, Thrissur, Kozhikode or Thiruvananthapuram, this means you never need to visit a consulate. A consultancy like Visa Xpert collects your documents, checks them, and gets the application filed through the authorised channel.
