Is there a Japan visa centre in Kochi?
Yes. VFS Global operates a Japan visa application centre in Kochi under the Consulate-General of Japan in Chennai (Kerala’s jurisdiction). Since 2 March 2026 you need a booked appointment; walk-ins are no longer accepted.
How much does a Japan visa cost from Kerala?

How long does a Japan visa take from Kochi?
The Consulate quotes a minimum of 3 working days once the file reaches Chennai; from VFS Kochi allow about 5–7 working days door to door, more in cherry-blossom and autumn seasons or if extra documents are requested.
Can I get a multiple-entry Japan visa?
Yes, for the same ₹500 fee, if you show sufficient financial capacity or previous travel to Japan or G7 countries in the last three years. Multiple-entry visas are valid 1 to 5 years with stays of 30 or 90 days.
Can residents of India use the Japan eVisa?
Not at present. The eVisa portal serves residents of certain other countries; residents of India apply through VFS Global, which is what we do for you in Kochi.
What is a Certificate of Eligibility and who needs it?
A pre-approval issued by Japanese Immigration for long-term statuses such as Dependent, work or study. Your sponsor in Japan applies for it (usually 1–3 months); you then get the visa at VFS Kochi within about a week.
How much bank balance is needed for a Japan tourist visa?
There is no published minimum. The Consulate looks at your six-month statement and three years’ ITR for stable income and enough savings for the trip; a modest, consistent balance is better than a sudden deposit.
